Everything is secured using brackets to the factory bolt holes with factory bolts and is reversible. also wanted to avoid piano hinges and go with something heavier duty and cleaner looking.
I wanted locking storage to be able to fit a lot of my photo equipment and have a big pelican case with a telescope it needed to fit. I wanted to also maximize headroom and be able to sit up. This system seems about perfect space wise. I wanted to get as much stuff out of the way so I don’t have to sleep wedged between a bunch of stuff and shuffle it around.
I also have an exhaust fan system that exhausts from the sunroof which is another project. Theres a 100ah lifepo4 batter powering a bunch of 12v sockets and the exhaust fan and my fridge (passenger seat). I have a 150w foldable solar panel I can plug in and use and also an 8a DC-DC charger to charge while driving. I have a 2nd 100ah lifepo4 box mainly for my astrophotography gear but I can plug it in too.
I have more details of build progress on an ig highlight.
It’s a 22 pilot trailsport. I added NOLO designs front, rear, and cat skid plates. Also have 245/70r17 falken wildpeak at3ws which are an inch bigger and a full size spare which fits in the factory spot. arb awning, inno wedge cargo box which is packed with my tents, tarps, recovery gear, solar panel. added the trailer hitch for a rear recovery point.
I will be adding a 6″ 30×80 foam mattress. But I also plan to tent camp to mix it up since just sleeping in a car can get cramped.
The trailsport has a tiny factory lift and I wanted to avoid an aftermarket lift for now and see how it does.
Took me two weeks to finish, was hoping to get it done in 1 and be on the road. Leaving from Florida to west texas, new mexico, colorado, wyoming, montana probably.
