Liong Mah brought a whole new product line to SHOT Show 2022: the Eutektik budget series. There are three models in the line so far; all three will look familiar to fans of Mah’s previous work, but the materials make them more affordable than the premium pieces in his main LMD line.

Blade steel across the board is D2, the current gold standard in affordable knife steel thanks to its high edge retention and toughness. The handle material options are twofold, either blue G-10 or foliage green Micarta. All three knives comes with reversible pocket clips, but dedicated lefty models are also on the way.

EFD

Of the three Eutektik knives, the EFD bears the strongest resemblance to an existing LMD knife: the Field Duty EDC. Mah favors mid- to large-blade knives for his everyday carry designs, and he gave this one a blade length of 3.5 inches. The drop point shape, coupled with the finger choil, give users utility and control in spades; both a front flipper and a thumb cutout are included for opening.

Binary

The Binary is Papa Bear in the Eutektik lineup, with a big ol’ 3.75-inch spear blade. Even though it’s the biggest, the rugged, straightforward look of that spear still communicates “EDC” to us. There’s no opening hole on this one, but it does have Mah’s preferred in-line spine flipper tab in addition to its front flipper flange.

Trinity

Fittingly, Mah equipped the Trinity model with a triumvirate of opening options: there’s a standard spine flipper, front flipper, and thumb cutout. Its balanced blade length and forward choil make it a capable all-purpose user, just like its stablemates. Speaking of the blade, the Trinity completes a second, blade shape triad between the three Eutektik knives with its clip point.
