Let’s try again after my last post was deleted by a mod – wasn’t trying to break any rules sorry, just thought I’d try engaging with a more USA based discussion group! ✌️
Currently in Australia, but will be spending time between Australia and the USA this year as my American wife and our kids have moved back there to be close to her family who hasn’t met our youngest daughter or seen us in over three years – tl;dr COVID has made multi-country family life a nightmare!
In Australia, I have a 2013 Toyota Hilux and love the setup based around a Camp King Industries Peak Tub Topper. Really practical and over 270,000km have had zero mechanical issues on the Hilux.

Will be looking at a similar-sized vehicle in the USA – probably a Tacoma or Ranger with either the GFC Platform Camper or Camp King Industries Outback Series Camper. Interested in feedback from anyone who’s used a GFC Camper or similar across a variety of weather conditions. Have had RTTs in the past, but now use either a swag or small tent if solo and an OzTent if with the family.

Going to be based in Kentucky as that’s where my wife’s parents are (other family live in CA and friends all over), but it’s a base, so will be travelling from there – use to driving distances, did a 13,000km trip in November 😎
What locations are recommended to check out? I lived in the USA for a year in 2008 and explored a lot of CA and parts of OR. Obviously have some ideas based on friends in the States and the internet, but keen to see the rest of the country and love to explore off the beaten track.

Appreciate any advice from guys and gals in the States! 🙂🤙
